CNN has listed Durban’s 80m long Umhlanga Pier as #1 on its list of the 9 most beautiful piers in the world in July 2014. The distinctive whalebone structure was opened in 2007 and has also previously won the South African National Award for Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement.
