2025-10 Mabalingwe Nature Reserve

Overview, trip report, images, and reviews from our visit to Mabalingwe Nature Reserve.

Mabalingwe Nature Reserve: October 2025

Overview

Although we drive past the reserve every year on our way to Mabula Nature Reserve and always say that we need to visit, we never make the time. Until this year. A timeshare points exchange on RCI provided a midweek stay, allowing us ample time to experience what Mabalingwe could offer.

The roughly two-hour drive went smoothly, even though we did encounter a “Stop-Go” delay due to roadworks outside Bela-Bela, close to the Reserve.

Checking in and out was very quick and efficient. All the staff we had contact with were always friendly and keen to assist. The reserve and facilities are maintained well.

The weather was initially quite cold, with rain, but it improved throughout our stay.

From my research, I knew that there would be plenty of opportunities for nature photography, which I was excited about. We enjoyed viewing a variety of animals, including antelope, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, and a highlight—spotting a leopard during one drive. Unfortunately, we did not manage to locate the elephants.

Ingwe Camp – Our home base

Ingwe camp is situated on top of a craggy rock outcrop, overlooking the Waterberg Valley. Each unit has a unique view, and the fact that there are often animals grazing near the units means guests are truly close to nature. There is a heated swimming pool just below the restaurant and an unheated pool near Chalet 22.

Our timeshare unit was conveniently located close to the reception and entertainment complex. Although Mabalingwe has a strict noise policy intended to ensure a peaceful environment, we noticed that noise from the entertainment area, the nearby coffee shop, and the maintenance depot still disturbed us at times. Apart from this, we barely heard our neighbours, even though the other units are in close proximity.
