Distant

Lowveld Viewpoint is located in Blyde River Canyon and affords stunning views up the canyon, to the glistening Blydepoort Dam at the far end surrounded by forested slopes. The rocky cones of the Three Rondavels formations are just visible, and you can see over the ridge to the hazy plains on the far side.

Indigenous

The National Road to Tsitsikamma runs through the dramatic Garden Route (between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth) – edged by indigenous forest and Tsitsikamma Mountains on one side and coastal cliffs with seaside inlets on the other. The Big Tree is close to the charming little village of Storms River where one can stay nestled in the forest, book a zip-lining excursion, blackwater tubing or Segway adventure tour and also close to the magnificent Storms River Mouth – a jewel of the Tsitsikamma National Park that offers excellent hiking opportunities, snorkelling, swimming, scuba diving and kayaking into the ancient Storms River Gorge.

Unspoiled

Watch the sun sink down over the ocean and explore a typically empty beach bordered by Slangkop Lighthouse on the south end and Chapman’s Peak on the north end. Noordhoek Beach is one of the less popular beaches in the area, probably because its water is cold and there isn’t as much development nearby, but nonetheless, it is an incredible beach to visit – in fact, it’s the most unspoiled and protected beach on the Atlantic Cape coast!
