Umhlanga is an affluent residential, commercial and resort town north of Durban on the coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It is part of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, created in 2000, which includes the greater Durban area. (the correct pronunciation of “hl” in Umhlanga is similar to the Welsh “ll”), the name means “place of reeds” in the Zulu language. It is bordered by Durban North to the south and Mt Edgecombe to the west.
Within the beautiful grounds of the Kimiad Golf Course in Moreleta Park, Pretoria lies the Rustica Restaurant and Rib House. At Rustica you can step into a new world with a tranquil golf course, luxuriant gardens and nature all around you.
Kalk Bay is also home to the tiny but locally famous surf spot named “Kalk Bay Reef”. This is renowned for heavy barrels and the associated shallow reef. It is best surfed on a big south-easterly swell or a north west wind. In smaller swells low tide makes for better barrels. Southern right whales come here during whale watching seasons, and are often seen playing or resting very close to surfers or piers.
