Scaled

A brown duck with a vividly yellow bill and white scalloping on the feathers, giving it a scaly appearance, especially on the underparts. A common resident and nomad through Africa’s freshwater and brackish wetlands, where it forages for plants and invertebrates. The similar African Black Duck differs from the Yellow-billed Duck by being darker overall and having white spots on the upper parts, a bull-neck, and a pale pink-and-black bill.

Lush

Standing guard over the treetop canopy in the heart of the forest is The Big Tree – an eight-hundred-year-old Yellowwood. This majestic tree towers over the rest of the canopy; standing 36+m tall and with a trunk circumference of 9m – this is a giant among giants. The walk to The Big Tree is a few hundred metres through the gorgeous forest, cooled by the lush canopy. It is a very easy walk, not requiring any significant level of fitness. The tree is surrounded by a wooden pathway so that you are able to examine it from every angle.

Unspoilt

The Robberg Hiking Trail is probably one of the most popular and well-known trails in the area and also one of the most scenic. The route is a circular trail along the Robberg peninsula with two shorter variations available ranging from easy to moderate. This is not recommended for your regular Saturday afternoon stroll or when you are just bored. However, when you’ve done it, you’ll have to agree it really is special – one of a kind. If you are interested in geology you will find it inspiring.
